2015: Day 1
For those of you new to our group of Facebook friends, every year Linda and I celebrate the holiday season with a tradition we call the “12 Days of Drinking” or 12 DOD. It’s all about honouring people or events over the past 12 months that have had an impact (usually good) on our lives by way of an amazing beverage. 12 days is a guideline, as we will likely creep to 15ish over the next month.
On our first day of the 12 Days of Drinking we honour (???) my first, only (and definitely) last attempt at karaoke – Chantilly Lace by the Big Bopper. Maybe ‘observe’ is a better word than honour. After all, we don’t ‘honour’ a train wreck. When Teabear’s mom (sometimes we call her Kimberley) double dog dared me to perform a solo song, I really had no choice. Truth is, I have absolutely no problem speaking in front of 100+ people, but put a mic. in my hand in front of 20 drunken tourists, and I’m terrified and wayyy out of my comfort zone. Nonetheless, I can check that one off the list of life experiences so cheers to you Mama Teabear… and to you Big Bopper … for pushing me.
The Chantilly Lace is a modified version of a China White shooter. Chantilly cream tops a combination of vodka, Bailey’s Irish Cream and Crème de Cacao (Oh, baby, you knooooow what I liiiike). There’s nothing like a small, quick hit of liquid courage before hitting the stage to offend people’s hearing.
My apologies to the Big Bopper, who undoubtedly rolled over in his grave. Based on the overwhelmingly negative feedback, I am one and done!
